In 1991, the San Jose LGBT community began the tradition of our own pride parade. The first two parades traversed the length of Stockton Street, where the Billy DeFrank Community Center was located at the time. This was before cell phones, before social media, before corporate floats and tech employee groups marching – although government officials were on board.
This video was taken at the the second parade in 1992 and reflects the do it yourself ethos of the time. The parade was spirited and fun for all of us.
