About BAYMEC

The Bay Area Municipal Elections Committee, more commonly known as just BAYMEC, is a political action committee, separate from the Foundation, which is a non-profit.

BAYMEC is a four-county political action committee (PAC) that has advocated for the civil and human rights of the LGBTQ+ community since its founding in 1984. It is the only political action committee dedicated to this purpose in Santa Clara, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, and Monterey Counties.  It partners with other allies to build understanding and common effort on equal justice issues.

Entitled Pride and Politics: the BAYMEC Story, the exhibit covers 4 decades of BAYMEC’s political activism. Highlights include:

·       History of the founding of BAYMEC

·       Biographies of its founders, Wiggsy Sivertsen and Ken Yeager

·       Timeline of major achievements by BAYMEC

·       Video touching on 40 years of BAYMEC history

·       Listing of names of BAYMEC board and advisory board members since 1984

·       Past commendations and proclamations from elected officials

·       Scores of photos of present and past BAYMEC board members, of elected officials attending BAYMEC functions, and of rallies, protests, and fundraisers coordinated by BAYMEC
